- General Characteristics: An evergreen tree reaching up to about 30 m. The Leaves are smooth, glossy, elliptic to oblong or ovate. The flowers are greenish-white in color. The fruits are berry, oblong, black, juicy shining when thoroughly ripe.
- Wood Anatomy: Growth rings are Scarcely distinct. Vessels diffuse-porous, Medium to small, numerous, solitary, or in radial multiples of 2 or 3; often filled with tyloses and white deposits. Rays fine, numerous, closely spaced.
