- General Characteristics: Evergreen trees, to 30 m high, bark 8-10 mm thick, surface yellowish-white. Leaves simple, flowers bisexual, white,fruit a berry-purple.
- Wood Anatomy: Growth rings are fairly distinct.Vessels Large to medium' and small, numerous, mostly solitary or in radial multiples of 2 or 3; often filled with tyloses and white deposits. Rays fine, closely spaced; filled with reddishbrown deposits .
