- General Characteristics: Primarily dioecious evergreen trees 10-20 m tall. Leaves flat, arranged spirally but appearing 2-ranked, Pollen cones globose. Usually up to 20 meters tall, as a shrub, small tree, or tree. Bark is reddish-brown or purplish-brown, thin, peeling off in irregular large scales, smooth in youth. Leaves are usually spirally arranged.
