- General Characteristics: Deciduous trees, to 18 m high, bark 6-8 mm thick, yellowish-grey, leaves trifoliate, flowers unisexual, white or greenish-yellow, ovary superior. Fruit is a capsule.
- Wood Anatomy: Fairly distinct. Vessels diffuse- porous medium to small, moderately numerous, solitary, or in radial multiples of 2-4 or more. Rays are fine, closely spaced.
