- General Characteristics: Deciduous trees, to 30 m high, leaves simple, lower leaves sub opposite, upper alternate, flowers bisexual, white, sessile, fruit a drupe.
- Wood Anatomy: The growth ring is scarcely distinct. Vessels diffuse-porous, medium to small, moderately few to few, solitary, or in radial multiples of 2, 3 or often more; occasionally filled with whitish. deposits and tyloses. Ryas is very fine and closely spaced.
