- General Characteristics: Evergreen trees, to 30 m high, bark 0.85 cm, dark brown mottled with white. Leaves simple, alternate, spiral. Flowers bisexual, white, fragrant. Fruit a berry.
- Wood Anatomy: A diffuse-porous wood. Growth rings are indistinct. Vessels are moderately large to small, rays fine to very fine.
